Bobby Deol Interview: I Should Have Learned Tamil, And Telugu, Said Bobby Deol On His Debut In South Cinema

Actor Bobby Deol is overwhelmed these days by the lifeline he has got for his career from the film 'Animal'. Bobby gets emotional again and again while talking about the success of the film. His three films from South cinema are in various stages of production these days. When Bobby Deol showed his look from his upcoming film 'Kangua' at the success party of the film 'Animal', people were surprised. A special conversation of 'Amar Ujala' advisory editor Pankaj Shukla with actor Bobby Deol.

Which three films of South Indian cinema are you doing these days?

I cannot tell much about the characters of these films because I am bound by the contract. Yes, but I am indeed doing three South films. After 'Ashram', I started getting many offers from the South. ‘Love Hostel’ was also added to these offers. Preparation has to be done for that. I am doing a Telugu film, so for this, I learned Telugu so that it would help in acting. Their dubbing in Telugu will be done by some other artist because my accent may not be good according to that language. Now I feel that I should have learned Telugu and Tamil.

How does it feel to receive so much love from the new generation of audiences?

I would say that it is God's blessing that I am getting so much love from the new young generation. In between, the new generation did not recognize me because I was not doing much work. Now I am getting so much love from today's young generation, so it feels very good. The new generation is also recognizing me, so I am happy about that.

When Sandeep Reddy Vanga's message came for the film 'Animal', what was your first reaction?

One day a message came on my phone that I am Sandeep Reddy Vanga and I want to talk to you about a project. At first, I wondered whether this was true or not. Someone somewhere is just having fun. Then when I inquired, I was told that this number was theirs only. Then when we met he told me that he wanted to cast me in a film. He showed a photo of the Celebrity Cricket League and said that he wanted the same look for this film. I also thought that the photo from the day of unemployment was useful.

So did you know then who are the other stars in the film and what is the story of the film?

Yes, I knew that Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor were in the film. Sandeep had told me the whole story of what my character is. But, only the gist of the story was shared with me. This is Sandeep's way of doing his work. He is very secretive about his story.

Sandeep Reddy's way of working is completely different, sometimes it even disturbs the actors working in the film...

Of course, their way of working is completely different. The confidence I have seen from Sandeep in his story is something I have never seen from any other director. They create a different world and people are drawn to it. Don't know what it is, I call him a magician.

If we talk about your character Abrar in the film 'Animal', then through it a very deep social commentary is also made about the practice of polygamy of a particular religion and why girls are ready for this kind of marriage.

I don't want to say much about it. All I am saying is that I am playing a character and the stories that happen are a reflection of the society, stories are written and influenced by what is happening in the society. And, if an awareness comes from it then that is a different thing. This is what I believe. I want to keep doing different types of characters.

What was Father Dharmendra's reaction when the first-weekend earning figures of the film 'Animal' came?

Papa is very active on mobile. Keep watching social media. Keep watching YouTube. He said, 'Bob, everyone is going crazy about you.' I said, 'Yes Papa, I am your son, so what if they are not crazy...' Papa was very happy that day. However, he has not seen this film yet. But, mom (Prakash Kaur) has seen this film twice till now. She cried for the first time. After all, a mother is a mother. I remember that whenever something happened to Papa in a movie, she would not be able to see it. We could not see. Recently, when I went to watch 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani', I did not know the story and when I saw that scene, I got up and left there. I couldn't stop myself, I couldn't control myself.

And, what was Sunny Deol's reaction?

My Brother is very happy. So happy for me. Like we were happy for him in ‘Gadar 2’. Used to see the collection every day. Didn't stop, didn't stop, didn't stop. Initially, we thought it was a dream. But, later the dream started turning into reality. And now the same thing is happening to me, so everyone is very happy at home.

There is also a reference in the film 'Animal' to its main character Rannvijay returning to his village. How important is it for people to remain connected to their roots even while living in cities?

It is very important but it is not within anyone's reach because everyone...my cousins, my cousins, my relatives themselves have gone to Canada. Everyone made progress, and everyone worked hard. Everyone has gone out due to their respective professions. I was a little lucky in this matter that we used to go to Punjab by train every year during winter and summer vacations. It was a lot of fun, we used to stay for a month or so. I always wanted my children to be somewhat connected to Punjab. But, then the atmosphere kept changing. Everyone has gone from there so where to go even if we go there..?

Anil Sharma, director of the film 'Gadar 2', was making a film in which there was talk of bringing three generations of your family together, what is the status of it?

The story in it is not yet formed properly. We were trying to make ‘Apne 2’. But the story we have heard so far was not convincing. So we are still busy, trying to work again. I want to work with Dad again and work with Karan for the first time.

And, you have worked with Bhaiya (Sunny Deol) before also. But, given the impact of 'Gadar 2' and 'Animal', how much hope can the fans of Lord Bobby and Tara Singh have for coming together in a new story?

Just the other day, my brother and I were discussing that we should do an action film together. But, a script must be found and a maker must be found.

So should we expect to see Bobby Deol again in 'Animal Park'?

I don't know any story yet so I can't say anything. I just want to live in it.
